DermoNeuroModulation is a gentle, science-based approach to manual therapy that works with the nervous system, rather than against it.

This technique involves nuanced skin-stretch with supportive body positioning. The clinical reasoning of DNM is grounded in modern pain science and supports long-lasting changes in how clients experience pain and learn to manage it more productively.

Whether you’re a massage professional or manual therapist, learning DermoNeuroModulating (DNM) gives you effective tools to approach sensitive systems confidently, respectfully and effectively.

What You Learn with Pinpoint

  • How to integrate nervous system-informed concepts into your sessions and incorporate them into your existing skillset
  • The difference between DNM and traditional “deep tissue” or fascial work, and how to adapt them into this framework
  • When and how to apply skin-stretch to engage cutaneous nerves
  • Ways to communicate pain neuroscience education (PNE) to clients with confidence, so they understand their bodies better
  • A modern model of manual therapy that de-emphasizes “fixing” and reclaims co-regulation and therapeutic alliance

Why I Teach This Work

I’ve been practicing and teaching science-based manual therapy for well over 20 years. My approach is grounded in critical thinking, neuroanatomy, nervous system awareness, and a deep respect for the complexity of pain.

My goal in teaching DNM is to demystify it.

DNM is actually quite simple, but can feel hard to grasp at first. I want to remove the stumbling blocks so you don’t have to struggle the way I (and many others) did. I’ve designed this course to make the process feel intuitive, doable, and rewarding from the very start.

Professional headshot of Tania Velásquez, an educator in massage and manual therapy, known for teaching DermoNeuroModulation. She’s wearing a white collared shirt with small, light grey polka dots, with a gentle smile and a bright, neutral background.

I had the privilege of training directly with Diane Jacobs, the developer of DermoNeuroModulation (DNM). That experience shaped how I understand this work, not as a technique to apply, but as a framework to explore the body’s responsiveness through gentleness and clarity.

Her feedback has been ever-present throughout the creation of this course and she is also featured in some of the online modules in Part 3: Treatment Techniques, so in many ways it’s like learning dermoneuromodulating from Diane herself.

If you’re a therapist who’s ready to do less, observe more, and create meaningful change without falling into the trap of “fixing” people, this course was made for you.

Why Learn Dermoneuromodulating?

When you choose to learn DermoNeuroModulating, you’re not just adding another technique modality, you’re reshaping your clinical lens. This approach is grounded in current neuroscience, pain science, and a respectful, client-centered philosophy.

Whether you’re new to working with the nervous system or looking to refine your touch, this course gives you a framework that makes clinical sense and has immediate clinical impact.

As one of the few instructors to have trained directly with DNM developer Diane Jacobs, I’ve designed this course to remain true to her vision while also making the material easy to integrate into your real-world practice.

We go deep into how DNM works, what it is, what it isn’t, what it can be, and how to use it alongside what you already do, including neuromuscular techniques, rehabilitation applications, orthopedic massage, and even sports massage.

You’ll learn how to safely and gently treat a variety of pain presentations, including:

  • Clients with nervous system hypersensitivity
  • Sensitive or touch-averse presentations
  • Complex or chronic pain when nothing else has worked

The Pinpoint DNM online course also includes lifetime updates, real community support, and full access to evolving research in DNM and manual therapy.

You’ll be able to revisit materials anytime, refresh techniques, and stay current without re-enrolling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is DNM only for chronic pain clients?

No. Dermoneuromodulating is useful in both acute and chronic presentations especially where sensitivity, uncertainty, or nervous system dysregulation is present.

But its concepts aren’t limited to working with chronic pain. Many therapists incorporate DNM principles into other approaches, including sports massage, neuromuscular therapy, and orthopedic treatment.

It enhances what you already know by adding a clearer lens on the nervous system, high-level clinical reasoning tools, and practice skill adaptability.

Is there a prerequisite?

Yes. As part of the online coursework, or before the first day of the Live Class, you’ll need to watch this required 1-hour Pinpoint DNM Introduction video and complete 10 questions.

This foundational video introduces the core principles and language used throughout the course. It’s essential viewing for all participants, regardless of background.

Massage and manual therapists from any discipline are required to answer the 10 questions based on this video to ensure readiness for the course and the success of all participants.

Will this count toward my CEs?

All parts of Pinpoint DNM are NCBTMB-approved for continuing education and CEs are awarded upon successful completion.

However, please check with your state or regional board to make sure this course meets their requirements if it is not explicitly stated that NCBTMB-approved CEs are accepted.
